With Bangkok is becoming a more and more popular city for foreigners to live in and start their business, restaurants in Bangkok are getting more and more diversified. We can find nearly all kinds of cuisines from all over the world. Exotic cuisines like Iraqi, Lebanese and Egyptian food are easily found in NaNa and Asok area. Popular cuisines such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean food are opened in every district in Bangkok.
However, Indigo Bar and Restaurant may not be easily found due to its rather low-profile marketing strategy. Among nearly all French residents in Bangkok, Indigo is very famous. Indeed, it is a hidden gem inside a very tiny alley in Soi Convent. European restaurants of French, Spanish, Italian and even Swiss cuisines are sprawling around Bangkok. To find good French restaurants is not a difficult task at all.
Indigo’s most visitors are foreigners, among which more than half of them are French. Not only do they find the open bar a homey place for gathering, they fancy also the food provided at Indigo. To me, Indigo is a cozy restaurant for good steak and French food. There are both outdoor and indoor areas for diners. I usually prefer air-con room as I am allergic to mosquito bites. The decoration is simple with many different kinds of posters on the walls. I was rather impressed by a very Chinese posters during my last visit.
After ordering, a basket of bread was served. The bread was fresh and soft with rich aroma.
I ordered lobster bisque for myself and a mushroom cream soup for my friend. The soup was served hot. The lobster bisque was rich with taste of lobster meat. The taste of cheese melt perfectly with the soup. As for the mushroom cream soup, you will be able to tell what kind of soup it is even you are eye-folded. The fresh smell of mushroom was blended smoothly with the white cream, making the soup a perfect started. Along with the soup, there came the Cesar salad and parma ham with melon. The parma ham was quite salty but cut rather thin to match with the sweetness of the melon.
I ordered their most popular dish for both of us – Cote de Boeuf, which costs 1,500 baht and weighs 1.4 kilo. Although it says ‘for two’ in the menu, this dish can actually feed 3-4 people full. The big steak was cut carefully piece by piece by the waiter right in front of you. The tenderness and the taste of the meat will make you disbelieve that the steak is local.
Their other dishes on the menu are amazing. If you like steak tartare, you shouldn’t miss this at Indigo. The fresh beef is chopped just fine enough and mixed with the right portion of mustard, chopped capers and other spices etc to make it another irresistible dish. Their tender and juicy milk-fed veal with morel sauce will make you a returning diner.
I highly recommend this restaurant to you! It is good for romantic dinner, friends’ gathering and family reunion!
