Nimitr – Glittering Gem inside Sukhumvit Soi 39

Nimitr is located on the 27th floor of the award-winning 5-star boutique hotel – 137 Pillars Suites & Residence nestled in the bustling Sukhumvit Soi 39. Nimitr is headed by a 27-year-old Indonesian Chef – Chef Nanang Prasetya Aditama. His talent and creativity lead him to different adventurous chefdom in Bali, the Malidives and Bangkok. Being energetic, cheerful and confident, Chef Nanang effortlessly impressed me with his charisma. “I am sure I will be happily fed!” I thought. After experiencing his cuisine, I truly understand why he is proficient at leading Nimitr at his young age.

The cuisine at Nimitr is an interesting marriage of the West and East, with a touch of Indonesian and Thai tastes coming from the brilliant use of sustainable produces in the region. The deliciousness of each dish created by Chef Nanang pleasantly fulfils diners’ desire for quality food – food that is so unforgettable on the palate. The culinary skill of Chef Nanang is undeniably impressive.

What did we have at Nimitr?

Yum Som O – Pomelo Salad & Scallops

Yum, in Thai cuisine, gives life to the ingredients with a well-balanced taste of spiciness, sweetness, and sourness in the sauce. This pomelo salad with jumbo-sized pan-seared scallops was a plate-licking starter. The scallops were cooked for the right time to leave them still very juicy inside. The fish roes added a natural savoury flavour to the dish. These little spheric balls made the dish more beautiful and tasty.

Plah Goong

Plah Goong is the signature dish of Chef Nanang. It’s also the best selling dish at Nimitr. Plah Goong is made of a North Atlantic prawn with matcha soba noodles in a veil of lemongrass aspic. It might seem to be a heavily-seasoned dish, but it wasn’t at all. The prawn meat was crunchy and tasted even more fantastic when eating together with the matcha soba noodles and the lemongrass aspic.

Andaman Tiger Prawns served with homemade noodles, kale, tobiko and a coriander foam

The homemade noodles were the star. It was al dente, bouncy and toothsome. Eating the noodles alone already brought me to the gourmand’s haven. The sauce was absolutely a wonderful complement to the overall taste of the dish! It’s aced our hearts with the perfect taste! Don’t be scared of the chillies, the spiciness was just right, even for someone like me – someone who does not like spicy food.

Fresh fruit platter

It is not a normal fresh fruit platter we normally find. It’s a dessert with mixed fruits with aspic served with yoghurt ice cream. Honestly, we are not a big fan of dessert, but we emptied this whole platter with ease and total enjoyment. It’s a symphony of natural flavours from the fresh berries, yoghurt ice-cream and other ingredients. My palate obviously loved having them on its playground!

Strawberry cheesecake

Just like the fresh fruit platter, don’t be cheated by the name of this dessert. It’s a sophisticated dessert that was not just a slice of strawberry-flavoured cheesecake. It was an artistically-presented dessert served with pistachio sponge, strawberry foam and passion fruit. You know what? It’s another plate-licking dish! This dessert, unlike a slice of rich strawbeery cheesecake, was so light and comforting to the stomach!

After enjoying a wonderful meal at Nimitr, we also enjoyed a visual feast of the fabulous bird’s eye view of Bangkok at the Marble Bar located right outside the restaurant. Marble Bar is a rooftop bar serving enticing cocktails and offering beautiful sunset view. There’s a little spot to test your phobia of height!
