Sensi, as its name suggests, alludes to all five senses and to bringing sensations to diners through tantalizing and delightful culinary experience. The restaurant is set in a Thai house with chic and elegant décor. It features Italian leather, parquet, and tables in a dining room that can accommodate around 50 guests. It is a perfect place for a romantic dinner or a happy gathering with friends and family. The Chef’s Table, a thick long wood dining table, is located right in front the open kitchen, giving diners at the table the privilege to delight themselves with the smell of the food being prepared by the chefs in the kitchen. All these elements contribute to the recognition of Sensi as a fine-dining Italian restaurant in Bangkok.
Sensi – a destination for quality Italian cuisine
Stewarded by Head Chef Ernesto Stefani and Sous Chef Joss Linde, Sensi’s kitchen is the real-life Hogwarts. It is the vibrant heart where each dish is prepared with the passion of Chefs Ernesto and Joss. Tireless effort has been put into perfecting the services and cuisine by the owner, Charlotte Buzzanca. Such effort has become an invisible cubic’s arrow that wins the hearts of Sensi’s regulars and first-time diners. To truly experience the culinary delight at Sensi, we have tried one of the degustation menus – The 5 Sensi Menu.
The 5 Sensi Menu
The moment we were settled at the Chef’s Table, a glass of complimentary Prosecco and a jar of biscuit sticks were served, followed by some warm housemade bread. We especially like the idea of using chilled bubbles to prepare diners’ indulgence in the world of Italian dining.
This is Sensi’s classic starter. The balsamic pearls were brilliantly used to balance the stracciatella cheese. I loved the burst of acidic sweetness on my palate. It’s an innovative way to present caprese salad. It’s a common Italian salad presented in an unconventional way. Precisely speaking, it’s a unique Sensi’s way
(2) A choice between (a) Fassona Beef Tartar and (b) Smoked Hokkaido Scallops
Unless you are a vegetarian, it will be a tough decision to make between these two starters. Both dishes are served with a glass dome cover keeping the hickory wood smoke inside.
The beef tartar was blurred by the hickory wood smoke. The moment the cover was opened, the smoke filled the air and gave my sense of smell a nutty note. The Fassona beef tartar had a slightly sweet, nutty smoky flavour. The texture and mouthfeel were beyond buttery and the flavour of the beef was delicate. The chopped vegetables gave a contrasting texture to the tender beef. It’s a wonderful starter.
This precious harvest was perfectly handled with all the original juice and freshness locked inside the scallop. To enjoy this dish, cut a bit of the scallop and eat with some arugula and pomegranate. Layers of flavours – freshness (Hokkaido scallop), sweetness (pomegranate) and pepperiness (arugula) formed wonders on my palate. It was a delightful starter!
(3) Risotto Porcini – Porcini mushroom, cream
The third course was a traditional Italian dish – risotto. If you have tried this risotto, you will not feel surprised if I say it is one of the best in town. The earthy, rich-tasting porcini mushrooms gave a pungent, woodsy flavour to the risotto. The risotto was supple and al dente! To fully enjoy this dish, crush the cheese crisp and eat with the risotto, let the cheese melt and add magic to the taste of the risotto.
(4) A choice between (a) Pan-fried Meditteranean Sea Bass and (b) Like a ‘Rossini’ Beef tenderloin
I love this dish. While eating, I was wondering how the sea bass was pan-fried. The crispy skin was a lovely texture added on the tender fish fillet. The citrus sauce gave a fresh touch to the dish. The flavours of the sauces and ingredients complemented each other, making this main literally a plate-licking dish.
(b) Like a ‘Rossini’ Beef tenderloin – Foie gras, mashed potatoes, baby spinach, truffle sauce
As a meat lover, this Rossini beef tenderloin was irresistible. The pan-seared Foie gras acted as a meat enhancer, turning the beef tenderloin even more scrumptious. The truffle sauce, rich and saporous, enchanted the whole dish with divine taste.
(5) Sensi Tiramisu – Mascarpone Mousse, lady fingers, hot espresso
It’s another classic dessert in Italian cuisine. At Sensi, Tiramisu is presented in an unfamiliar way. Hot espresso was poured on the chocolate sphere. When it melted, the mascarpone mousse was then exposed! Mix all ingredients together to enjoy this special Tiramisu.
