Taste of Spain Set Menu at Tapas Y Vino – Recommended to try!

Not sure since when Spanish food suddenly becomes trendy in Bangkok, but the frenzy of churros around the globe surely stirs up such mania. To be in trend (an attempt to deny getting mature, LOL!), I visited Tapas Y Vino at Pullman Bangkok Grande Sukhumvit Hotel. I quite like the name of the restaurant – Tapas Y Vino.  It tells what this restaurant serves straightforwardly. Tapas and wine are what you can find at Tapas Y Vino. Under the stewardship of Chef Pedro Carrillo, the a la carte menu has been re-crafted to highlight some Spanish cuisine favourites. On the day of our visit, I tried a few tapas, some appetizers, two main courses and churros. Let me show you what we have experienced.

Ambience
I like the dining ambience at Tapas Y Vino. It’s cozy with an open kitchen that allows guests to watch the chefs in action. Red is the theme colour of the restaurant, giving a lively mood to diners. In fact, it also reminded me of the red flag used in the Spanish bull fights. It isn’t a bad choice at all for a Spanish restaurant.

Food – Tapas
At Tapas Y Vino, three types of tapas are offered, namely vegetarian, seafood and meat tapas.
For vegetarian tapas, I tried the potato bravas. We highly recommend this tapas to you! One word – delicious! A balanced taste was found in the tomato-pepper sauce, adding an extra layer of flavour to the fried potatoes.

For seafood tapas, Chef Pedro chose Tiger mussels deep fried in the shell with spicy sauce for us. Fresh mussels, though deep-fried, tasted fresh with juice! The spicy dipping gave a stimulating flavour.

The most impressive meat tapas was Creamy traditional Iberico ham croquettes. The croquettes were so delectable that I ordered it again and again.

Food – Toasts
Bakery lovers, you will love Tapas Y Vino because of their toasts. To me, they could make the best appetizers as well! I tried Chorizo paste and honey toasts and Grated tomato and white anchovies. These toasts can be commonly and easily found in Spain. You don’t need to fly all the way to Spain, I was quite satisfied with the authentic taste!

Food – Appetizers
This appetizer, Piquillo red peppers with tuna filling and beetroot aioli, is a must-try. The tuna filling is flavoursome. This was another dish that I craved for.

Another appetizer that you’ll definitely fall in love with is Tuna tartare with traditional Gazpacho sauce from Malaga and chili. After one bite, I couldn’t shake off the image of its appealing plating and its unforgettable taste. A dish that I will order again on my next visit.

Food – Main course
I like the Black rice with squid, shrimps and aioli sauce. How the squid ink was perfectly absorbed by the rice is still a mystery me! What I know for sure is the mixing of squid pieces when cooking the rice gave a juicy taste in this dish. Squeezing some lemon juice on top, this main dish became more inviting.

Food – Dessert
Churros with hot chocolate is another must-try dish here! Dark chocolate was used and balanced the sugar on the churros perfectly! I especially like the syringe of chocolate, which added some fun when enjoying this dessert!

Drinks
How could I not order a glass of Sangria for this Spanish meal! At Tapas Y Vino, you can choose to have Sangria with red or white wine! Personally, I like the red one more.

It includes four tapas, choice of paella or other main course, churros, and either one pitcher of Sangria or one bottle of house wine. Indeed, this deal is quite tempting.

If you wish to only enjoy a drink with one or two kinds of tapas,  Chef Pedro has chosen a number of à la carte items, which start at THB 180++ per dish. With the extensive wine list that Tapas Y Vino offers, I am sure you can find some good wine, even vintage wine, to pair with your selected Spanish foods.
