CHAPTER CHIANTI OPENS IN THE HEART OF TUSCANY

Chapter Chianti will open its doors in July 2026 in the rolling hills of Tuscany’s iconic Chianti region, just 45 minutes from Florence. The 82-room property marks the second opening in the Chapter Italia Portfolio, developed by Marco Cilia following the success of Chapter Roma in 2019. Set within a restored 16th-century medieval village spanning over 99 acres, the property redefines rural Italian hospitality by introducing bold contemporary design to one of the country’s most tradition-steeped landscapes. Guided by a philosophy of conscious luxury, Chapter Chianti will welcome guests of all ages and travel styles into an environment designed to encourage exploration, connection, and enjoyment.

Where guests might expect rustic Tuscan charm, Chapter Chianti delivers something entirely unexpected. South African designer Tristan Du Plessis of Studio A has transformed the historic hamlet into a design-forward destination that challenges convention while respecting heritage – combining the reliability and ease of a world-class hotel with the individuality, warmth, and creativity of an independent destination to create a hotel with a soul. Rather than leaning into terracotta and antiques, Du Plessis employs clean architectural lines, exposed stone, sculptural lighting, and modern Italian design pieces to create spaces that feel more urban lifestyle hotel than countryside retreat, yet remain deeply connected to the landscape and history of the site.

After the success of Chapter Roma, we wanted to take the Chapter philosophy beyond the city and show that contemporary design and authentic Italian hospitality can thrive anywhere. Tuscany has incredible countryside resorts, but many felt too quiet, too expected. We set out to create a place where you can unwind completely or let your hair down, sometimes both in the same day. Chapter Chianti is about giving guests the freedom to experience Tuscany their way, whether that’s a sunrise yoga session or dancing after sunset. ~ Cilia

Leading the culinary direction at Chapter Chianti is Chef Vincenzo Martella, who brings more than two decades of experience in fine dining and luxury hospitality. A Michelin-starred chef, Martella will apply his contemporary approach to Italian cuisine across the hotel’s three restaurants and bars, shaping a culinary programme rooted in his philosophy of Roots and Branches- balancing the solidity of tradition with the creativity of evolution. An expert forager, Martella draws inspiration directly from the surrounding landscape, blending wild herbs, flowers, and seasonal produce into the menus to create an offering that combines Tuscan heritage with global influences.

Across the property, the dining spaces are designed to feel lively, relaxed, and open to all ages, with a focus on flavour, atmosphere, and shared moment Osso, the signature restaurant inspired by traditional Macelleria Italian grills and chophouses, celebrates Tuscan meat-centric dining with a contemporary edge. The Pool Bar Parasole offers Mediterranean-inspired light bites beneath Crema Outdoor’s signature pagoda umbrellas, while the Main Bar channels bold New York energy. Adding playful street spirit to the mix, Hey Güey, the property’s Mexican food truck also found at Chapter Roma, serves tacos and empanadas with casual vibrancy.

The 500-square-meter Spa F.A.R.M. Social (Forever A Relaxed Mood) reimagines wellness as a communal experience. Unlike traditional spas designed for solitary retreat, this space encourages connection alongside relaxation, featuring steam rooms, saunas, salt pools, hydrotherapy pools, dry hammam, and jacuzzi in a travertine-lined sanctuary.

Beyond the hotel’s dining and wellness offerings, Chapter Chianti immerses guests in the authentic rhythms of Tuscan life through carefully curated activities. Designed to feel active and engaging from morning through evening, the hotel encourages movement, exploration, and shared experience across its grounds and surrounding landscape.

Guests can explore the countryside through horse riding across vineyards, truffle hunting with local experts, and olive oil harvesting during the season. Mountain biking trails wind through the hills, while sunrise yoga sessions offer peaceful starts to the day. Padel courts provide active recreation along with a cutting-edge gym, and local farms allow families to connect with animals. Each experience is rooted in local tradition and designed to create genuine connection with the landscape and community.

The property retains the medieval village’s original stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and centuries-old structural elements, which Du Plessis celebrates through careful layering of contemporary materials. Warm wooden flooring meets travertine, one of Tuscany’s most iconic stones, while a color palette drawn from the surrounding countryside (warm neutrals, soft clay, muted greens) creates seamless f low between the historic architecture and bold new interventions.

Du Plessis pays homage to the village’s butchers, bakers, and farmers, the hands that once worked this land, by grounding the design in materiality that speaks to Tuscan heritage while pushing it confidently forward. Custom lighting from DCW éditions and Marset, handmade furniture by local artisans, and pieces from Tradition introduce an international design language that complements rather than competes with the setting. Chapter Chianti will allow for a full immersion in Tuscan culture, without compromising on its true identity – bringing a unique experience of urban hospitality to an otherwise traditional setting.

Art remains central to the Chapter experience. Following his work at Chapter Roma, Du Plessis brings his immersive aesthetic to Chianti, while artist Kokekit introduces a softer visual language throughout the property. Her signature organic lines and fluid forms flow through guest rooms and public spaces, culminating in a striking masterpiece set beneath the water of the panoramic swimming pool, revealed as guests swim above it, suspended between art and landscape.

At its core, Chapter Chianti reflects a commitment to conscious luxury – where experiences are thoughtful, design is purposeful, and spending is intentional. From communal wellness spaces to immersive local activities, the focus is on how guests engage with the destination, offering a more meaningful and contemporary way to experience the Tuscan countryside.

The challenge was creating something bold and modern in a region defined by tradition, without losing its soul. We wanted the old and new to coexist in dialogue. The result is a space where the passage of time is visible but not frozen, a historic village transformed into something radically current, yet timeless. ~ Du Plessis

Beyond the main hotel, The Mansion offers the ultimate private escape: a five-bedroom, five-bathroom villa with private swimming pool, olive tree gardens, and complete seclusion, perfect for families, friends, or groups seeking space to gather and celebrate.

Perfectly positioned in the heart of Chianti wine country and 45 minutes from Siena and Florence, Chapter Chianti serves as an ideal base for discovering Tuscany at its most authentic while offering a retreat that feels worlds away from the expected.

We’re not trying to replicate what exists across Tuscany. We’re writing a new chapter, one that speaks to travelers who value authenticity, creativity, and design as part of their journey. Chapter Chianti honors where it is while confidently showing where it’s going. ~ Cilia
